Thanks for the post ,even emerging economies like India and China , Mobile will the main instruments from where the social media will take off. Social media is here to stay , the advertisments industry will find a sea change due to social media. Just Google is the tip of the ice berg. The telcos like DOMOCO, TELENOR,BT,VODAFONE, will rule the social media world.
The convergence in technolgy will come to it's peak Doctors, Lawyers,Artist , all will use ocial media in a bigger format.
With Warm Regards,
Deb from India.

Solid predictions, all. iPhone has a big head start and devoted following... but damn those Android phone commercials make it look cool. I'm starting to use Mobile as a whole more than ever before, too, and bet that by this time next year I'm using it as a business tool almost as much as my laptop.

Maybe "obsolete" is a strong word, because it's not going to go away, but I don't think it's going to be as strong as it was. There are too many free tools that can do wireless short messaging (Twitter DMs, for instance), that I think more and more people are going to question why they're spending $5 - $10 per month to do it.

I remember hearing an episode of "Search Engine" from TVO where they said it actually costs a cell company nothing to send a text, because it's a tiny little packet of data that fits within the bigger packets of voice calls. And I think as more people learn this, AND realize there are free options, I believe texting will slow down and decrease.

Good post. All very interesting. However, I don't believe that SMS will go away. At least not any time soon. I don't think anyone has been on the pay per text plan since the early 2000's. They all seem to be packaged plans now. As for companies leveraging twitter, I think you're spot on.
