Uhhh... so the only trouble I have here is: "and never, ever moderating them"

Corporation have lots of responsibility and with that comes liability. In spite of technology a lot of spam comments still get through. Should porn comments be allowed? How about distracting rants full of hate and venom that don't have anything to do with the conversation? Profanity? How about comments that unfairly disparage a competitor by name....liableous comments.

All of this is the reality that Corporations deal with every day. Our advice to business bloggers it to moderate, but don't kill the humanity and honesty of the medium. Will some companies sqeeze the funnel too tight and ruin any benefit they might get from business blogging? Of course. Just like some companies SPAM email or flood my mailbox with paper...that's their problem.

Honest open and intelligent is how we guide our clients here at Compendium Blogware. Too open can be just as big a problem as too closed.

Amen, Josh. This is why corporations either need to have a strong social media presence and staff to work it, or need to hire someone to do it. People are talking about them, no matter if the company's head is in the sand or not.

It's also worth noting that users who are savvy enough to make the step of leaving you a comment on your corporate blog are likely to do so elsewhere as well. Why not let it happen and take control of the situation, putting out a positive image and making happy customers?
